Emerge pairs professionals with design students in a mentoring partnership. This program presents the opportunity to build lasting relationships and foster the professional success of emerging designers—all while having a great time! Emerge sessions will take place twice a year, during the spring and fall.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

AIGA Cleveland will provide guidelines for the mentoring relationship, however, the partnerships will grow independently. Participants are encouraged to meet or correspond with each other on a regular basis at a minimum of one hour, two times per month for a period of three months.

Past participants have discussed resumes, reviewed portfolios and worked on projects together. Mentees say, “I received great feedback on my portfolio and gained valuable contact information and insight into the Cleveland/Akron design community.” Mentors have benefited from “working with someone who I can continue to mentor as their career develops. Sharing experiences and hopefully impacting someones future in the field.”

Mentees:
Should be a currently enrolled college student.

Mentors:
Should have a minimum of 1 year professional experience.

Here are the minimum requirements for a mentoring relationship during a semester session:

  • One in-person meeting to set mentoring goals
  • A job site tour or shadowing
  • Feedback on at least two projects
  • Portfolio review (if applicable)
  • Interview materials review (if applicable)

Guidelines and additional suggestions for fostering your relationship can be found here:
