RECAP: Design Disruptors

On Wednesday, November 2 AIGA Cleveland hosted a screening of the film Design Disruptors at Market Garden in Ohio City.

The documentary, produced by InVision, explores how design has become an important role in every industry. Featuring more than 15 prominent companies including Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, AirBNB, Uber, and Spotify, the film shows how each placed an emphasis on design and user experience to create industry leading products.

Viewers get insight into the design approach of each company and get to hear interviews with their design teams. Margaret Lee of Google and Julie Zhuo of Facebook talked about designing for people’s real lives and user empathy while other companies gave unique stories like Mailchimp and the origin of Freddie’s high-five.

Overall, the film was up-lifting and inspirational. It truly showcased how product design has become a powerful competitive advantage for modern businesses and how it’s redefining the way we live our lives and interact with each other.
