It Sucks to be a Junior Designer

Are you a student, recent graduate, or young professional who is trying to navigate the design industry? You may even be a in a Junior Designer role and wonder how you can advance in your career. On Thursday, April 27th from 6-8 pm EST, join us for a panel discussion among Cleveland design professionals who will provide a safe space to discuss past experiences of working as a junior designer, voice frustrations and difficulties, and offer tips and advice for navigating the design industry. About the Speakers

Bailey Mincer is a skilled graphic designer with four years of experience in the sports industry. In her current role as Senior Graphic Designer for the Cleveland Cavaliers, she contributes to the visual brand of the team across all areas of the business. This includes but is not limited to, the Cavs’ digital graphics, photoshoots, billboards, and apparel. Before joining the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019, Bailey was a graphic design intern for Major League Baseball, where worked on graphics for the 2019 MLB All-Star Weekend here in Cleveland, as well as branding for various MLB’s international games.

Emily Koehler is the Associate Creative Director for Fortune Brands Innovations, parent company of Cleveland-based Moen. Since joining the company in 2019, Emily has played a pivotal role in building Moen’s internal creative team from the ground up. She is responsible for leading FBIN’s in-house Creative X group and has a passion for developing her team, focusing on growing their cross-disciplinary design work and executing compelling brand content for all 3 segments: water, outdoor and security.

Recently, Emily has been honored with two creative awards from the In-House Agency Forum for her work on Moen Publications and Direct Mail. Previously, Emily worked for Findaway (recently acquired by Spotify) in Cleveland, OH, where she grew from a Junior Designer to an Art Director during her 11 years with the company. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Ohio University.

Born & raised in Cleveland, OH, William Alford is an Art Director & Graphic Designer with 15 years of experience curating advertising campaigns and building brand identity systems. In 2013, he enrolled in grad school to focus on brand strategy. This changed the trajectory of his career, forever. Since then, he’s worked as a Designer in various industries such as commercial & residential real estate, hospitality, non-profit, retail, and consumer packaged goods.

Jason Medrano is a multi-disciplinary designer with a passion for brand identity, editorial, and digital design. His ability to execute smart design solutions with meticulous care was enriched by completing his BFA in Visual Communication Design from Kent State University. As a senior designer at Little Jacket, he has made significant contributions that have been featured in AIGA Design 730, ADDYs, and Communication Arts.

Parking Details

There are 3 parking lots surrounding Adcom, as well as ample street parking. The lot prices range from $7-$9 and the majority of street parking is metered. There is also street parking at the back of the building on W. 10th, which is also metered.
