Design Speaker Series: Louise Fili

 

louiseLouise is a New York-based graphic designer and founder of Louise Fili Ltd, which specializes in logo, package, restaurant, and book design. Formerly senior designer for Herb Lubalin, Louise was art director of Pantheon Books from 1978 to 1989, where she designed close to 2,000 book jackets. She has received Gold and Silver Medals from The Society of Illustrators and New York Art Directors Club. Louise has taught and lectured on graphic design and typography and her work is in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, and the Bibliothèque Nationale. In 2004, she was inducted into the Art Directors Hall of Fame. Her 40+ year career as a designer and business owner has set a new standard for book design, typography, restaurant branding and packaging design.

Designers may also recognize Louise as mentor to Jessica Hische, wife of Stephen Heller, lover of all things Italian, and author of Elegantissima: The Design and Typography of Louise Fili, published in 2012.

Copies of her latest book, Elegantissima, the Design and Typography of Louise Fili, will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
