Play Ball! Cleveland’s Rebranded Guardians Forge Ahead Toward a New Era

Spring is a time of renewal, and all eyes are on Cleveland as its Major League Baseball club embarks upon a new chapter. Join designer, author, and sports branding expert Todd Radom as he discusses the dynamics of design for sports, with a concerted focus on Cleveland’s newly-named Guardians and that club’s 120+ year visual heritage.

Sports fans are exposed to graphic design every hour of every day, often from a very early age. Logos and uniform designs connect generations of fans who follow their favorite teams daily, sometimes obsessively. The graphic traditions of professional sports in America are deeply embedded in the fabric of our communities, from the red-clad Cardinal fans of St. Louis to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the entire city shows its colors on Packers’ game day. Logos and uniform designs connect generations of fans who follow their favorite teams daily, in the ultimate display of brand loyalty. Regardless of what happens on the field, the Cleveland Guardians’ 2022 season will be one for the books.
