In July, AIGA Cleveland hosted a gallery exhibit for Get Out the Vote featuring submitted posters, informational displays, and an animated voting facts video created by Cleveland State University graduate Vanessa Okojie. Vanessa is from Abuja, Nigera and is currently enrolled in the Visual Communication Design MFA program at Kent State University.
When asked to give a brief statement on the project, Vanessa wrote:
“Being a Nigerian, it was quite fascinating getting an inside look at the American voting system which many people do not understand. One thing I am certain of is that only a handful of people would be interested in reading five pages worth of voter statistics, so I approached this project by trying to present the given information in a compelling way. I think it is vital that people be made aware of the importance of voting because the outcome of every election affects the future of this country and people need to exercise their right to vote in order to have an impact on that decision”.
The facts in this video are important to understand. Who is and isn’t voting? What motivates or demotivates people to vote? By knowing the facts you can help encourage others to go out and vote this election day.
